Abstract

The author proposes and explains, first, the general regulatory frame regarding the protection of Chile’s cultural patrimony, the administrative organization of the fi eld -with special emphasis in the Council for National Monuments-; the different typologies that are given to the areas that are subjected to protection and the most common intervention techniques. The writer also offers an exposition of the different interpretations sustained regarding the scope of the article 10 p), of the Law of Bases of the Environment about what must be understood as an area put under official protection and if this norm involves immovables of patrimonial character
