Abstract

In the context of the healthcare reform develop in Chile and especial/y in the component related to assistance networks, an analysis of professional regulation through these networks is presented as a system of social coordination different from those coordinated via the market or bureaucratic hierarchies . These mechanisms form a way of resolving uncertainties confronted by health organizations as they are challenged to establish routine programs of operation . The central argument presented is that coordination via networks is made up of professionals and that healthcare profession, particular/y medicine , is exposed to attempts to control them by management services. This relationship is analyzed, as we/1 as certain aspects related to the way in which professional regulation is confronted and characterized. The article finishes with an analysis of the advanced  social complexity of modern day society and the ability of the professional system to be a regulating mechanism that can be absorbed by the networks.
