Abstract

maintenance and recuperation. The home visit is one of these strategies. The objective of the present bibliographical study is to better understand the impact of home visits in different elderly populations (healthy, fragile and chronically ill). The reviewed evidence makes it possible to conclude that in the healthy elderly population, the home visit as a preventive strategy can reduce mortality, as well as assist in maintaining functional capacity and self-care abilities. In the fragile elderly population and in those with chronic illness, it contributes to improving the capacity to perform instrumental activities of daily living, reduces fall-related accidents; maintaining autonomy and improving clinical evolution. Finally, the benefits of patient satisfaction should also be considered, as well as decreases in healthcare costs.
