This article explores the main characteristics of political science in Costa Rica over the last 35 years. It proposes a periodization of the historical development of the discipline, based on atopical classification and the research styles used in academic production. This paper uses empirical evidence to show how the
discipline is currently, confronted with involved in the search for disciplinary identity at both a theoretical and methodological level.
