This article presents general political and economic information about Colombia since 2009. In addition, it briefly describes several events that stirred public debate. The article suggests that uncertainty regarding a second reelection of president Uribe contributed to some of the uneasiness surrounding the nomination of key public servants, investigations about undue monitoring of political and social leaders by the national intelligence agency, and distribution of agricultural subsidies. The article suggests that this uncertainty affected Colombia’s relations with its neighbors.
