Abstract
This essay presents festive celebrations as fundamental events in the life of individuals and of communities. It considers festive celebrations as occasions on which the senses, emotions and cosmovisions find a wider and freer horizon to unfold their potentialities than those afforded by workaday life. Festive celebrations are also sites for the expression of the ancestral feelings of communities on the human and divine planes.
