Abstract

Our proposal continues the analysis of the border area in northern Mexico from the phenomenon of “narco violence” and their different approaches. The article focuses on the territories of the “narcozona” located in the northern state of Chihuahua, Mexico that for four decades has formed a problematic and heterogeneous relationship with the “narcoculture” deeply rooted in their social, economic, political and cultural relationships. We analyze the novel of the juarense writer Alejandro Páez Varela to visualize two main areas: a) the idea of “narcomáquina” (Reguillo) with erosive and ghostly effects in a society like the chihuahuense b) the idea of a “contramáquina” (Reguillo) with the need for emergency and cohesion to counter forces against the “narcopoder” from a cultural critique that exposes ethical and political reflection spaces
